Clarke's Commentary on the BibleNow these are the chief - A good deal of difference will be found between the enumeration here and that in 1 Chronicles 9:2, etc. There, those only who came with Zerubbabel appear to be numbered; here, those, and the persons who came with Ezra and Nehemiah, enter into the account. Treasury of Scripture Knowledge Now. There is a good deal of difference between this enumeration and that in Chronicles; as this comprehends not only those who came first with Zerubbabel, but also those who came with Ezra and Nehemiah: see on 1 Chronicles 9:18 Who till now waited in the king's gate eastward: they were porters in the companies of the children of Levi. . the chief.
