His authority, signs, and demands will draw humanity into open rebellion against God. Such worship fulfills the pattern of apostasy foretold in 2 Thessalonians 2:3–4, where the man of lawlessness exalts himself in defiance of God. The worship given to the beast is not merely political compliance; it is spiritual submission to the Satanic power working through him. Ephesians 1:4 teaches that believers were chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world. Those preserved from worshiping the beast belong to God not because they possess unusual strength, but because God has claimed them through His sovereign grace. Rev 17:8 The beast that you saw—it was, and now is no more,… in the Book of Life belonging to the Lamb The Book of Life records those who possess eternal life through the Lamb. Their names stand secure because they belong to Jesus Christ, who purchased them for God by His blood. Revelation later identifies entry into the holy city with having one’s name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life (Revelation 21:27). In the coming conflict, allegiance to the Lamb distinguishes God’s people from the world that follows the beast. Rev 21:27 but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book… who was slain. Jesus, the Lamb of God, was slain in fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan. His death accomplished the atonement anticipated in the sacrifices of the Old Testament and foretold in Isaiah 53. The Lamb’s sacrifice is the foundation of salvation, for Christ died for sins and rose again according to the Scriptures (1 Cor. 15:3–4). The beast gains worship through deception and coercion, but the Lamb receives worship as the crucified and risen Savior who gave Himself to redeem His people.
