It is not any race, but a particular one. "The race set before us." 2. The introduction to this race is by regeneration (John 3:2, 7). 3. We must lay aside every hindrance that would impede our progress. II. OUR PROGRESS IN THIS RACE. 1. We must keep the course. 2. We must keep on in the way. 3. We must go on patiently under all difficulties. 4. We must keep the prize in view. 5. We must persevere to the end. III. OUR FINISHING THIS RACE. 1. The certainty of having the prize. 2. The prize will be a glorious and enduring one. 3. The prize will be a just one. "Crown of righteousness." 4. The honour connected with the bestowment of this crown. (The Evangelical Preacher.)
