The Condition of Sinners
Homilist
Zechariah 9:12
Turn you to the strong hold, you prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare that I will render double to you;

"Prisoners of hope."

I. ALL SINNERS ARE PRISONERS. A prisoner implies —

2. Deprivation: society, light, etc.

3. Bondage. A sinner is a slave. His soul himself is enslaved, death cannot free him. Some of the prisoners have —

II. HOPE. Some, not all. None in hell. But some on earth.

1. Provision has been made for their deliverance.

2. The vilest of men have obtained deliverance.

3. Deliverance is freely offered to all.

(Homilist.)
