1 Corinthians 4:7 For who makes you to differ from another? and what have you that you did not receive? now if you did receive it, why do you glory… In "Ethics for Young People," Professor C. C. Everett tells of a question he asked when a small boy. He says: "A lady was talking with me about 'easily besetting sins.' She said that her besetting sin was pride. I looked at her in innocent wonder and exclaimed, 'Why, what have you to be proud of?' I saw at once by her confusion that I had made a very impudent and unlucky speech." We cannot ask this question of others; but if any one who is disposed to be proud should ask himself the question, "What have you to be proud of?" and answer it truly, it might do him good. Parallel Verses KJV: For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it? |
