1 John 1:5-10 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.… I. WHAT IS THE NATURE OF THIS FELLOWSHIP? II. WHAT IS THE GREAT HINDRANCE TO THIS FELLOWSHIP? It is here described as walking in darkness. III. WHAT ARE THE CONDITIONS OF THIS FELLOWSHIP? "If we walk in the light we have fellowship with Him." This implies — 1. Activity. 2. Progress. There is no finality in the experience of holiness. 3. Definiteness. 4. Completeness. 5. Pleasantness. "In the light." 6. Safety. He that walketh in the darkness stumbleth (John 11:10). IV. WHAT IS THE RESULT OF FELLOWSHIP? It is evidently cleansing. (H. Thorne.) Parallel Verses KJV: This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. |
