Galatians 2:20-21 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me… This must be taken in connection with two other texts in this crucifixion Epistle, viz., Galatians 5:24, and Galatians 6:14. The three together exhibit — I. The ORDER. II. The CHARACTERISTICS. III. The PERFECTION of personal religion as fellowship with the Redeemer's death. I. The sinner, condemned by the law, makes the sacrifice of the great Substitute his own, and is, therefore, legally released from its penalty. II. The flesh, or the old man remaining in the pardoned believer, is hanged up, and delivered to death in the same mystical fellowship. III. The saint glorying in Christ crucified as the ground of his acceptance, and the source of his sanctification, is crucified with Rim to the world and all created things that belong not to the new creation. Let us read these words, where they were written, at the foot of the Cross. (W. B. Pope, D. D.) Parallel Verses KJV: I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. |
