Galatians 2:20-21 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me… I. DEATH TO THE LAW IS THE CONDITION OF LIFE UNTO GOD. 1. The part which the law performs in bringing about this death. By its own teaching the law proclaims its impotence, forbids our reliance on it, and prepares the way for Christ who delivers from its bondage. 2. The connection between death to the law and life unto God. Emancipation. Abject slavery exchanged for filial freedom. II. LIFE UNTO GOD IS A LIFE OF FAITH IN THE SON OF GOD. It introduces the believer to(1) a new power — even the power of a Divine life; (2) a new motive — love. The believer works no longer up to the point of acceptance with God, but from that of sin forgiven and acceptance secured. (Emilius Bayley, B. D.) Parallel Verses KJV: I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. |
