4 Why should the name of our father be removed from the midst of his family, because he had no son? Give us a possession in the midst of the brothers of our father.” 5 And Moses brought their case before the face of YHWH, 6 and YHWH spoke to Moses, saying, 7 “The daughters of Zelophehad speak correctly. You surely must give them a possession of inheritance in the midst of the brothers of their father, and cause the inheritance of their father to pass over to them. 8 And you shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘If a man dies and does not have a son unto him, then you? shall cause his inheritance to pass over to his daughter. 9 And if he has no daughter, then you? shall give his inheritance to his brothers. 10 And if he has no brothers, then you? shall give his inheritance to the brothers of his father. 11 And if his father has no brothers, then you? shall give his inheritance to his close relative, the nearest to him, from his family, and he shall possess it. And it shall be to the sons of Israel a statute of judgment, as YHWH has commanded Moses.’” Numbers 27:4-11, Berean Literal Bible. Public domain.
