And the daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, from the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph, came—and these were the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah.

And they stood before the face of Moses and before the face of Eleazar the priest and before the face of the leaders and all the congregation at the opening of the Tent of Meeting, saying,

“Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the midst of the congregation of those who gathered together against YHWH in company with Korah; but he died in his own sin. And he had no sons.

Why should the name of our father be removed from the midst of his family, because he had no son? Give us a possession in the midst of the brothers of our father.”

And Moses brought their case before the face of YHWH,

and YHWH spoke to Moses, saying,

“The daughters of Zelophehad speak correctly. You surely must give them a possession of inheritance in the midst of the brothers of their father, and cause the inheritance of their father to pass over to them.
