2 as it is written in Isaiah the prophet: Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way. 3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ready the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 4 John was immersing in the wilderness, and preaching the immersion of repentance in order to the remission of sins. 5 And all the country of Judea and the inhabitants of Jerusalem went out to him, and were all immersed by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
