Now God had said to Abram, |Go out from your country, and from your relatives, and from your father's house, to the land that I will show you.

And I will make of you a great nation. And I will bless you and make your name great. And you will be a blessing.

And I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse those who treat you with contempt, and through you all the families of the earth will be blessed.|

So Abram left, as God had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.

Abram took Sarai his wife, Lot his brother's son, and all their possessions that they had accumulated, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they left to go to the land of Canaan. And they came to the land of Canaan,

and Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. At that time the Canaanites were in the land.

Then God appeared to Abram and said to him, |I will give this land to your offspring.| He built an altar there to God, who appeared to him.

He left from there to the mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Ai on the east. There he built an altar and called on the name of God.

And Abram traveled on, continuing toward the Negev.
