1 And when the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one consent in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of a rushing, violent wind, and it filled the whole house in which they were sitting. 3 And there appeared to them tongues like fire, which distributed themselves, and sat one on each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem devout Jews, from every nation under heaven. 6 When the report of this had gone abroad, the multitude came together; and they were perplexed, for each one heard them speak in his own language. 7 They were amazed and astonished, and said one to another: Are not all these that are speaking, Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, every one in our own language in which we were born?
