In the seventh year and tenth year of Pekah son of Remaliah, Ahaz son of Jotham king of Judah began to reign.

Ahaz was a son of twenty years in his reigning, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. And he did not do right in the eyes of YHWH his God like David his father.

And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and he even made his son pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom YHWH had cast out from before the sons of Israel.

And he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.

Then Rezin king of Aram came up—and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel—to Jerusalem to battle. And they lay siege upon Ahaz, and they could not fight him.

At that time Rezin king of Aram captured Elath for Aram, and he drove out the Jews from Elath. And the Edomites went in to Elath, and they dwell there to this day.
