17 Now after the death of Jehoiada the leaders of Judah came and paid homage to the king. And the king listened to them. 18 They forsook the house of the LORD, the God of their fathers, and served the Asherim and the idols: and wrath came on Judah and Jerusalem for this their guiltiness. 19 Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again to the LORD; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear. 2 Chronicles 24:17-19, New Heart English Bible.
