1 After Rehoboam had established his (a people has enlarged) sovereignty and royal power, he and all Israel (Judah) with him forsook the Law of the LORD {YHWH}. 2 In the fifth year of Rehoboam’s (a people has enlarged) reign, because they had been unfaithful to the LORD {YHWH}, Shishak (greedy of fine linen) king of Egypt (land of bondage) attacked Jerusalem (city of peace) 3 with 1,200 chariots, 60,000 horsemen (charioteers), and countless troops who came with him out of Egypt (land of bondage)—Libyans (empty-hearted Da 11:43 / afflicted Jer 46:9), Sukkites (booth dwellers), and Cushites (people from the upper Nile region). 4 He captured the fortified cities of Judah (praised) and came as far as Jerusalem (city of peace). 5 Then Shemaiah (heard by YHWH) the prophet came to Rehoboam (a people has enlarged) and the leaders of Judah (praised) who had gathered at Jerusalem (city of peace) because of Shishak (greedy of fine linen), and he said to them, “This is what the LORD {YHWH} says: ‘You⁺ have forsaken Me; therefore, I have forsaken you⁺ into the hand of Shishak.’” 6 So the leaders of Israel (he wrestles with God) and the king humbled themselves and said, “The LORD is {YHWH} righteous.” 7 When the LORD {YHWH} saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah (heard by YHWH), saying, “They have humbled themselves; I will not destroy them, but will soon grant them deliverance. My wrath will not be poured out on Jerusalem (city of peace) through Shishak (greedy of fine linen). 2 Chronicles 12:1-7, Berean Annotated Bible. Public domain.
