| 1 | Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God. | Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. | Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. | |
| 2 | Therefore he who resists the authority withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment. | Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. | Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. | |
