He suddenly follows her As an ox goes to the slaughter, Or as one in fetters to the discipline of an ignorant fool, All at once he follows her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a stag is caught fast All at once he followed her like an ox going to the slaughter, like a deer stepping into a noose
Until an arrow pierces through his liver; As a bird hastens to the snare, And he does not know that it will cost him his soul. till an arrow pierces its liver; as a bird rushes into a snare; he does not know that it will cost him his life. till an arrow pierces his liver, like a bird darting into a snare, little knowing it will cost him his life.
So now, my sons, listen to me, And pay attention to the words of my mouth. And now, O sons, listen to me, and be attentive to the words of my mouth. Now then, my sons, listen to me; pay attention to what I say.
Do not let your heart go astray into her ways, Do not wander into her pathways. Let not your heart turn aside to her ways; do not stray into her paths, Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths.
For many are the slain whom she has cast down, And numerous are all those killed by her. for many a victim has she laid low, and all her slain are a mighty throng. Many are the victims she has brought down; her slain are a mighty throng.
The ways to Sheol are in her house, Descending to the chambers of death. Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death. Her house is a highway to the grave, leading down to the chambers of death.
