Suddenly he went after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter [not knowing the outcome], Or as one in stocks going to the correction [to be given] to a fool, All at once he follows her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a stag is caught fast All at once he followed her like an ox going to the slaughter, like a deer stepping into a noose
Until an arrow pierced his liver [with a mortal wound]; Like a bird fluttering straight into the net, He did not know that it would cost him his life. till an arrow pierces its liver; as a bird rushes into a snare; he does not know that it will cost him his life. till an arrow pierces his liver, like a bird darting into a snare, little knowing it will cost him his life.
Now therefore, my sons, listen to me, And pay attention to the words of my mouth. And now, O sons, listen to me, and be attentive to the words of my mouth. Now then, my sons, listen to me; pay attention to what I say.
Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways, Do not stray into her [evil, immoral] paths. Let not your heart turn aside to her ways; do not stray into her paths, Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths.
For she has cast down many [mortally] wounded; Indeed, all who were killed by her were strong. for many a victim has she laid low, and all her slain are a mighty throng. Many are the victims she has brought down; her slain are a mighty throng.
Her house is the way to Sheol, Descending to the chambers of death. Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death. Her house is a highway to the grave, leading down to the chambers of death.
