24 to keep you from the immoral woman, from the flattery of the wayward wife’s tongue. to preserve you from the evil woman, from the smooth tongue of the adulteress. keeping you from your neighbor’s wife, from the smooth talk of a wayward woman.
25 Don’t lust after her beauty in your heart, neither let her captivate you with her eyelids. Do not desire her beauty in your heart, and do not let her capture you with her eyelashes; Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes.
26 For a prostitute reduces you to a piece of bread. The adulteress hunts for your precious life. for the price of a prostitute is only a loaf of bread, but a married woman hunts down a precious life. For a prostitute can be had for a loaf of bread, but another man’s wife preys on your very life.
27 Can a man scoop fire into his lap, and his clothes not be burned? Can a man carry fire next to his chest and his clothes not be burned? Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned?
28 Or can one walk on hot coals, and his feet not be scorched? Or can one walk on hot coals and his feet not be scorched? Can a man walk on hot coals without his feet being scorched?
29 So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife. Whoever touches her will not be unpunished. So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; none who touches her will go unpunished. So is he who sleeps with another man’s wife; no one who touches her will go unpunished.
