Go to the ant, thou slothful one; see her ways, and be wise: Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!
Which no leader to her, scribe and ruler; Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, It has no commander, no overseer or ruler,
She will prepare in summer her bread, gathering her food in harvest. she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest. yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.
How long, O slothful one, wilt thou lie down? when wilt thou rise from thy sleep? How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep?
A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to lie down: A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—
And thy poverty came as he going, and thy want as a man of the shield. and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man. and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.
