So [is] he who has gone in to the wife of his neighbor, || None who touches her is innocent. So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; none who touches her will go unpunished. So is he who sleeps with another man’s wife; no one who touches her will go unpunished.
They do not despise the thief, || When he steals to fill his soul when he is hungry, People do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy his appetite when he is hungry, People do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy his hunger when he is starving.
And being found he repays sevenfold, || He gives all the substance of his house. but if he is caught, he will pay sevenfold; he will give all the goods of his house. Yet if he is caught, he must pay sevenfold, though it costs him all the wealth of his house.
He who commits adultery [with] a woman lacks heart, || He who does it is destroying his soul. He who commits adultery lacks sense; he who does it destroys himself. But a man who commits adultery has no sense; whoever does so destroys himself.
He finds a stroke and shame, || And his reproach is not wiped away, He will get wounds and dishonor, and his disgrace will not be wiped away. Blows and disgrace are his lot, and his shame will never be wiped away.
