That they may keep thee from the evil woman, and from the flattering tongue of the stranger. to preserve you from the evil woman, from the smooth tongue of the adulteress. keeping you from your neighbor’s wife, from the smooth talk of a wayward woman.
Let not thy heart covet her beauty, be not caught with her winks: Do not desire her beauty in your heart, and do not let her capture you with her eyelashes; Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes.
For the price of a harlot is scarce one loaf: but the woman catcheth the precious soul of a man. for the price of a prostitute is only a loaf of bread, but a married woman hunts down a precious life. For a prostitute can be had for a loaf of bread, but another man’s wife preys on your very life.
Can a man hide fire in his bosom, and his garments not burn? Can a man carry fire next to his chest and his clothes not be burned? Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned?
Or can he walk upon hot coals, and his feet not be burnt? Or can one walk on hot coals and his feet not be scorched? Can a man walk on hot coals without his feet being scorched?
So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife, shall not be clean when he shall touch her. So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; none who touches her will go unpunished. So is he who sleeps with another man’s wife; no one who touches her will go unpunished.
