My son, if thou dost accept my sayings, And my commands dost lay up with thee, My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you,
To cause thine ear to attend to wisdom, Thou inclinest thy heart to understanding, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding—
For, if for intelligence thou callest, For understanding givest forth thy voice, yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding,
If thou dost seek her as silver, And as hid treasures searchest for her, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure,
Then understandest thou fear of Jehovah, And knowledge of God thou findest. then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.
For Jehovah giveth wisdom, From His mouth knowledge and understanding. For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Even to lay up for the upright substance, A shield for those walking uprightly. he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
To keep the paths of judgment, And the way of His saints He preserveth. guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints. for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.
Then understandest thou righteousness, And judgment, and uprightness -- every good path. Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; Then you will understand what is right and just and fair—every good path.
