1 The Proverbs of Solomon: A wise son makes a father glad, and a foolish son is the grief of his mother. The proverbs of Solomon. 2 The treasures of wickedness will not bring gain, and righteousness delivers from death. Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death. Ill-gotten treasures have no lasting value, but righteousness delivers from death.

4 The one making slack his hand becomes poor, and the hand of the diligent ones makes rich. A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich. Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.
5 The one gathering in the summer is a wise son; one sleeping in the harvest is a son causing shame. He who gathers in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who brings shame. He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.
