And it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had hung the doors, and the gatekeepers had been appointed, and the singers, and the Levites, Now when the wall had been built and I had set up the doors, and the gatekeepers, the singers, and the Levites had been appointed, After the wall had been rebuilt and I had set the doors in place, the gatekeepers, the musicians and the Levites were appointed.
that I gave the charge to Hanani my brother and Hananiah the leader of the citadel of Jerusalem, for he was a faithful man and he feared God above many. I gave my brother Hanani and Hananiah the governor of the castle charge over Jerusalem, for he was a more faithful and God-fearing man than many. I put in charge of Jerusalem my brother Hanani, along with Hananiah the commander of the citadel, because he was a man of integrity and feared God more than most people do.
And I said to them, “Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun is hot. And while they are standing by, let them shut the doors, and fasten, and appoint guards of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, each man at his station and a man in front of his house.” And I said to them, “Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun is hot. And while they are still standing guard, let them shut and bar the doors. Appoint guards from among the inhabitants of Jerusalem, some at their guard posts and some in front of their own homes.” I said to them, “The gates of Jerusalem are not to be opened until the sun is hot. While the gatekeepers are still on duty, have them shut the doors and bar them. Also appoint residents of Jerusalem as guards, some at their posts and some near their own houses.”
And the city was was wide on two hands and great, and the people were few in its midst, and the houses had not been rebuilt. The city was wide and large, but the people within it were few, and no houses had been rebuilt. Now the city was large and spacious, but there were few people in it, and the houses had not yet been rebuilt.
And my God put it into my heart, and I gathered the nobles and the rulers and the people, that they might be registered by genealogy. And I found a register of the genealogy of those who had come up at the first, and I found written in it: Then my God put it into my heart to assemble the nobles and the officials and the people to be enrolled by genealogy. And I found the book of the genealogy of those who came up at the first, and I found written in it: So my God put it into my heart to assemble the nobles, the officials and the common people for registration by families. I found the genealogical record of those who had been the first to return. This is what I found written there:
