| 24 | And answering, Jesus said to them, “I will also ask you⁺ one word, which if you⁺ tell Me, I will also tell you⁺ by what authority I do these things. | Jesus answered them, “I also will ask you one question, and if you tell me the answer, then I also will tell you by what authority I do these things. | Jesus replied, “I will also ask you one question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. | |
| 25 | From where was the baptism of John? From heaven or from men?” And they were reasoning among themselves, saying, “If we should say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say to us, ‘Why then did you⁺ not believe him?’ | The baptism of John, from where did it come? From heaven or from man?” And they discussed it among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ | John’s baptism—where did it come from? Was it from heaven, or of human origin?” They discussed it among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will ask, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’ | |
