1 Many have undertaken to compose an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us, Since many have undertaken to compile an account of the things accomplished among us, Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us,

5 In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah, and whose wife Elizabeth was a daughter of Aaron. In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah, of the division of Abijah. And he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife <i>was</i> of the daughters of Aaron, and her name <i>was</i> Elisabeth. In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah, of the division of Abijah; and he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. 6 Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and decrees of the Lord. And they were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and statutes of the Lord. 15 for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He shall never take wine or strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother’s womb. for he will be great before the Lord. And he must not drink wine or strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb. 17 And he will go on before the Lord in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous— to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. and he will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared.” And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. 18 How can I be sure of this? Zechariah asked the angel. I am an old man, and my wife is well along in years. And Zechariah said to the angel, “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is advanced in years.” And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years. Zechariah said to the angel, “How will I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is advanced in her years.” Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.”
19 “I am Gabriel, replied the angel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news. And the angel answered him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I was sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news. And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings. The angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and I was sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news. The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news.
20 And now you will be silent and unable to speak until the day this comes to pass, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled at their proper time. And behold, you will be silent and unable to speak until the day that these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their time.” And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season. And behold, you will be silent and unable to speak until the day when these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled at their proper time.” And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.”
21 Meanwhile, the people were waiting for Zechariah and wondering why he took so long in the temple. And the people were waiting for Zechariah, and they were wondering at his delay in the temple. 25 “The Lord has done this for me. In these days He has shown me favor and taken away my disgrace among the people. “Thus the Lord has done for me in the days when he looked on me, to take away my reproach among people.” Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on <i>me</i>, to take away my reproach among men. “This is the way the Lord has dealt with me in the days when He looked <i>with favor</i> upon <i>me,</i> to take away my disgrace among people.” “The Lord has done this for me,” she said. “In these days he has shown his favor and taken away my disgrace among the people.”

28 The angel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you. And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, <i>thou that art</i> highly favoured, the Lord <i>is</i> with thee: blessed <i>art</i> thou among women. And coming in, he said to her, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord <i>is</i> with you.” The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”
29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. And when she saw <i>him</i>, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. But she was very perplexed at <i>this</i> statement, and was pondering what kind of greeting this was. Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.
30 So the angel told her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 Behold, you will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David, He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. 33 and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever. 34 How can this be, Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin? And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? But Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”
35 The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God. And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; for that reason also the holy Child will be called the Son of God. The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.
36 Look, even Elizabeth your relative has conceived a son in her old age, and she who was called barren is in her sixth month. And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. And behold, even your relative Elizabeth herself has conceived a son in her old age, and she who was called infertile is now in her sixth month. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month.
37 For no word from God will ever fail. For nothing will be impossible with God.” For with God nothing shall be impossible. For nothing will be impossible with God.” For no word from God will ever fail.”
38 “I am the Lord’s servant, Mary answered. “May it happen to me according to your word. Then the angel left her. And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her. And Mary said, “Behold, the Lord’s bond-servant; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

43 And why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? And whence <i>is</i> this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? And how has it happened to me that the mother of my Lord would come to me? But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
44 For as soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. For behold, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy. As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.
45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord’s word to her will be fulfilled. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.” And blessed <i>is</i> she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord. And blessed <i>is</i> she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord.” Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”

51 He has performed mighty deeds with His arm; He has scattered those who are proud in the thoughts of their hearts. 56 Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home. And Mary remained with her about three months and returned to her home. And they would have called him Zechariah after his father, And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father. 61 They said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who bears this name. And they said to her, “None of your relatives is called by this name.” And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name. And they said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by this name.” They said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who has that name.”
62 So they made signs to his father to find out what he wanted to name the child. And they made signs to his father, inquiring what he wanted him to be called. And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called. And they made signs to his father, as to what he wanted him called. Then they made signs to his father, to find out what he would like to name the child.
63 Zechariah asked for a tablet and wrote, “His name is John. And they were all amazed. And he asked for a writing tablet and wrote, “His name is John.” And they all wondered. And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all. And he asked for a tablet and wrote as follows, “His name is John.” And they were all amazed. He asked for a writing tablet, and to everyone’s astonishment he wrote, “His name is John.”
64 Immediately Zechariah’s mouth was opened and his tongue was released, and he began to speak, praising God. And immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, blessing God. And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue <i>loosed</i>, and he spake, and praised God. And at once his mouth was opened and his tongue <i>freed,</i> and he <i>began</i> speaking in praise of God. Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue set free, and he began to speak, praising God.
65 All their neighbors were filled with awe, and people throughout the hill country of Judea were talking about these events. And fear came on all their neighbors. And all these things were talked about through all the hill country of Judea, And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea. And fear came on all those who lived around them; and all these matters were being talked about in the entire hill country of Judea. All the neighbors were filled with awe, and throughout the hill country of Judea people were talking about all these things.
66 And all who heard this wondered in their hearts and asked, “What then will this child become? For the Lord’s hand was with him. and all who heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, “What then will this child be?” For the hand of the Lord was with him. And all they that heard <i>them</i> laid <i>them</i> up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him. All who heard <i>them</i> kept <i>them</i> in mind, saying, “What then will this child <i>turn out to</i> be?” For indeed the hand of the Lord was with him. Everyone who heard this wondered about it, asking, “What then is this child going to be?” For the Lord’s hand was with him.
