15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus asked Simon Peter, |Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?| Peter told him, |Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.| Jesus told him, |Feed my lambs.| When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”
16 Then he asked him a second time, |Simon, son of John, do you love me?| Peter told him, |Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.| Jesus told him, |Take care of my sheep.| He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”
17 He asked him a third time, |Simon, son of John, do you love me?| Peter was deeply hurt that he had asked him a third time, |Do you love me?| So he told him, |Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you!| Jesus told him, |Feed my sheep. He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.
