2 “If one ventures a word with you, will you be wearied? Yet who can keep from speaking? “If one ventures a word with you, will you be impatient? 3 Surely you have instructed many, and have strengthened their feeble hands. Behold, you have instructed many, and you have strengthened the weak hands. Think how you have instructed many, how you have strengthened feeble hands.
4 Your words have steadied those who stumbled; you have braced the knees that were buckling. Your words have upheld him who was stumbling, and you have made firm the feeble knees. Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees. “Your words have helped the stumbling to stand, And you have strengthened feeble knees. Your words have supported those who stumbled; you have strengthened faltering knees.
5 But now trouble has come upon you, and you are weary. It strikes you, and you are dismayed. But now it has come to you, and you are impatient; it touches you, and you are dismayed. But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled. “But now it comes to you, and you are impatient; It touches you, and you are horrified. But now trouble comes to you, and you are discouraged; it strikes you, and you are dismayed.
6 Is your reverence not your confidence, and the uprightness of your ways your hope? Is not your fear of God your confidence, and the integrity of your ways your hope? <i>Is</i> not <i>this</i> thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways? “Is your fear <i>of God</i> not your confidence, And the integrity of your ways your hope? Should not your piety be your confidence and your blameless ways your hope?
7 Consider now, I plead: Who, being innocent, has ever perished? Or where have the upright been destroyed? “Remember: who that was innocent ever perished? Or where were the upright cut off? Remember, I pray thee, who <i>ever</i> perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off? “Remember now, who <i>ever</i> perished being innocent? Or where were the upright destroyed? “Consider now: Who, being innocent, has ever perished? Where were the upright ever destroyed?
8 As I have observed, those who plow iniquity and those who sow trouble reap the same. As I have seen, those who plow iniquity and sow trouble reap the same. Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker? ‘Can mankind be righteous before God? Can a man be pure before his Maker? Can a mortal be more righteous than God? Can even a strong man be more pure than his Maker?
18 If God puts no trust in His servants, and He charges His angels with error, Even in his servants he puts no trust, and his angels he charges with error; Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly: ‘He puts no trust even in His servants; And He accuses His angels of error. 19 how much more those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundations are in the dust, who can be crushed like a moth! how much more those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed like the moth. How much less <i>in</i> them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation <i>is</i> in the dust, <i>which</i> are crushed before the moth? ‘How much more those who live in houses of clay, Whose foundation is in the dust, Who are crushed before the moth! how much more those who live in houses of clay, whose foundations are in the dust, who are crushed more readily than a moth!
20 They are smashed to pieces from dawn to dusk; unnoticed, they perish forever. Between morning and evening they are beaten to pieces; they perish forever without anyone regarding it. They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding <i>it</i>. ‘Between morning and evening they are broken in pieces; Unregarded, they perish forever. Between dawn and dusk they are broken to pieces; unnoticed, they perish forever.
21 Are not their tent cords pulled up, so that they die without wisdom?’ Is not their tent-cord plucked up within them, do they not die, and that without wisdom?’ Doth not their excellency <i>which is</i> in them go away? they die, even without wisdom. ‘Is their tent-cord not pulled out within them? They die, yet without wisdom.’ Are not the cords of their tent pulled up, so that they die without wisdom?’
