1 In that day the Lorde with his sore and great and mightie sword shall visite Liuiathan, that pearcing serpent, euen Liuiathan, that crooked serpent, and he shal slay the dragon that is in the sea. In that day the LORD with his hard and great and strong sword will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan the twisting serpent, and he will slay the dragon that is in the sea. In that day, the LORD will punish with his sword— his fierce, great and powerful sword— Leviathan the gliding serpent, Leviathan the coiling serpent; he will slay the monster of the sea.
2 In that daye sing of the vineyarde of redde wine. In that day, “A pleasant vineyard, sing of it! In that day— “Sing about a fruitful vineyard:
3 I the Lorde doe keepe it: I will water it euery moment: least any assaile it, I will keepe it night and day. I, the LORD, am its keeper; every moment I water it. Lest anyone punish it, I keep it night and day; I, the LORD, watch over it; I water it continually. I guard it day and night so that no one may harm it.
4 Anger is not in mee: who would set the briers & the thornes against me in battel? I would go through them, I would burne them together. I have no wrath. Would that I had thorns and briers to battle! I would march against them, I would burn them up together. I am not angry. If only there were briers and thorns confronting me! I would march against them in battle; I would set them all on fire.
5 Or will he feele my strength, that he may make peace with me, and be at one with me? Or let them lay hold of my protection, let them make peace with me, let them make peace with me.” Or else let them come to me for refuge; let them make peace with me, yes, let them make peace with me.”
6 Hereafter, Iaakob shall take roote: Israel shall florish and growe, and the world shall be filled with fruite. In days to come Jacob shall take root, Israel shall blossom and put forth shoots and fill the whole world with fruit. In days to come Jacob will take root, Israel will bud and blossom and fill all the world with fruit.
7 Hath hee smitten him as hee smote those that smote him? or is hee slaine according to the slaughter of them that were slaine by him? Has he struck them as he struck those who struck them? Or have they been slain as their slayers were slain? Has the LORD struck her as he struck down those who struck her? Has she been killed as those were killed who killed her?
8 In measure in the branches thereof wilt thou contende with it, when he bloweth with his rough winde in the day of the East winde. Measure by measure, by exile you contended with them; he removed them with his fierce breath in the day of the east wind. By warfare and exile you contend with her— with his fierce blast he drives her out, as on a day the east wind blows.
9 By this therefore shall the iniquitie of Iaakob be purged, and this is all the fruit, the taking away of his sinne: whe he shal make all the stones of the altars, as chalke stones broken in pieces, that the groues and images may not stand vp. Therefore by this the guilt of Jacob will be atoned for, and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin: when he makes all the stones of the altars like chalkstones crushed to pieces, no Asherim or incense altars will remain standing. By this, then, will Jacob’s guilt be atoned for, and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin: When he makes all the altar stones to be like limestone crushed to pieces, no Asherah poles or incense altars will be left standing.
10 Yet the defenced citie shalbe desolate, and the habitation shalbe forsaken, and left like a wildernes. There shall the calfe feede, and there shall he lie, and consume the branches thereof. For the fortified city is solitary, a habitation deserted and forsaken, like the wilderness; there the calf grazes; there it lies down and strips its branches. The fortified city stands desolate, an abandoned settlement, forsaken like the wilderness; there the calves graze, there they lie down; they strip its branches bare.
11 When the boughes of it are drie, they shalbe broken: the women come, and set them on fire: for it is a people of none vnderstading: therefore hee that made them, shall not haue compassion of them, and he that formed them, shall haue no mercie on them. When its boughs are dry, they are broken; women come and make a fire of them. For this is a people without discernment; therefore he who made them will not have compassion on them; he who formed them will show them no favor. When its twigs are dry, they are broken off and women come and make fires with them. For this is a people without understanding; so their Maker has no compassion on them, and their Creator shows them no favor.
12 And in that day shall the Lord thresh from the chanell of the Riuer vnto the riuer of Egypt, and ye shalbe gathered, one by one, O children of Israel. In that day from the river Euphrates to the Brook of Egypt the LORD will thresh out the grain, and you will be gleaned one by one, O people of Israel. In that day the LORD will thresh from the flowing Euphrates to the Wadi of Egypt, and you, Israel, will be gathered up one by one.
13 In that day also shall the great trumpe be blowen, and they shall come, which perished in the land of Asshur: and they that were chased into the lande of Egypt, and they shall worship the Lord in the holy Mount at Ierusalem. And in that day a great trumpet will be blown, and those who were lost in the land of Assyria and those who were driven out to the land of Egypt will come and worship the LORD on the holy mountain at Jerusalem. And in that day a great trumpet will sound. Those who were perishing in Assyria and those who were exiled in Egypt will come and worship the LORD on the holy mountain in Jerusalem.
