1 And King Ahasuerus set tribute upon the land and the islands of the sea. King Ahasuerus imposed tax on the land and on the coastlands of the sea. King Xerxes imposed tribute throughout the empire, to its distant shores.
2 And all the work of his power and his strength, and the account of the greatness of Mordecai by which the king made him great, are they not written in the Book of the Words of the Days of the Kings of Media and Persia? And all the acts of his power and might, and the full account of the high honor of Mordecai, to which the king advanced him, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia? And all his acts of power and might, together with a full account of the greatness of Mordecai, whom the king had promoted, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Media and Persia?
3 For Mordecai the Jew was second to King Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews and was favored by the multitude of his brothers, seeking good for his people and speaking peace to all his seed. For Mordecai the Jew was second in rank to King Ahasuerus, and he was great among the Jews and popular with the multitude of his brothers, for he sought the welfare of his people and spoke peace to all his people. Mordecai the Jew was second in rank to King Xerxes, preeminent among the Jews, and held in high esteem by his many fellow Jews, because he worked for the good of his people and spoke up for the welfare of all the Jews.
