7 Have consulted together all the administrators of the kingdom—the administrators and the satraps, the counselors and the advisors—to establish a statute of the king and to make firm a decree that anyone who makes a petition of any god or man for thirty days, except of you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions. All the high officials of the kingdom, the prefects and the satraps, the counselors and the governors are agreed that the king should establish an ordinance and enforce an injunction, that whoever makes petition to any god or man for thirty days, except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions. The royal administrators, prefects, satraps, advisers and governors have all agreed that the king should issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god or human being during the next thirty days, except to you, Your Majesty, shall be thrown into the lions’ den.
8 Now, O king, may you establish this decree and sign the writing, so that it cannot be changed according to the law of the Mede and Persian, which shall not pass away!” Now, O king, establish the injunction and sign the document, so that it cannot be changed, according to the law of the Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked.” Now, Your Majesty, issue the decree and put it in writing so that it cannot be altered—in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.”
9 All because of this, King Darius signed the writing and the decree. Therefore King Darius signed the document and injunction. So King Darius put the decree in writing.
