2 When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that he was planning to fight against Jerusalem, And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come and intended to fight against Jerusalem, When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come and that he intended to wage war against Jerusalem,
3 he took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the springs which were outside of the city, and they helped him. he planned with his officers and his mighty men to stop the water of the springs that were outside the city; and they helped him. he consulted with his officials and military staff about blocking off the water from the springs outside the city, and they helped him.
4 Then many people gathered together and they stopped all the springs and the brook that flowed through the middle of the land, saying, “Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find abundant water?” A great many people were gathered, and they stopped all the springs and the brook that flowed through the land, saying, “Why should the kings of Assyria come and find much water?” They gathered a large group of people who blocked all the springs and the stream that flowed through the land. “Why should the kings of Assyria come and find plenty of water?” they said.
5 He took courage, built up all the wall that was broken down, and raised it up to the towers, with the other wall outside, and strengthened Millo in David’s city, and made weapons and shields in abundance. He set to work resolutely and built up all the wall that was broken down and raised towers upon it, and outside it he built another wall, and he strengthened the Millo in the city of David. He also made weapons and shields in abundance. Then he worked hard repairing all the broken sections of the wall and building towers on it. He built another wall outside that one and reinforced the terraces of the City of David. He also made large numbers of weapons and shields.
6 He set captains of war over the people, gathered them together to him in the wide place at the gate of the city, and spoke encouragingly to them, saying, And he set combat commanders over the people and gathered them together to him in the square at the gate of the city and spoke encouragingly to them, saying, He appointed military officers over the people and assembled them before him in the square at the city gate and encouraged them with these words:
