| 1“Son of man,” He said to me, “stand up on your feet and I will speak to you.” | 1“Stand up, son of man,” said the voice. “I want to speak with you.” |
| 2And as He spoke to me, the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet, and I heard Him speaking to me. | 2The Spirit came into me as he spoke, and he set me on my feet. I listened carefully to his words. |
| 3“Son of man,” He said to me, “I am sending you to the Israelites, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against Me. To this very day they and their fathers have rebelled against Me. | 3“Son of man,” he said, “I am sending you to the nation of Israel, a rebellious nation that has rebelled against me. They and their ancestors have been rebelling against me to this very day. |
| 4They are obstinate and stubborn children. I am sending you to them, and you are to say to them, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says.’ | 4They are a stubborn and hard-hearted people. But I am sending you to say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says!’ |
| 5And whether they listen or refuse to listen—for they are a rebellious house—they will know that a prophet has been among them. | 5And whether they listen or refuse to listen—for remember, they are rebels—at least they will know they have had a prophet among them. |
| 6But you, son of man, do not be afraid of them or their words. Do not be afraid, though briers and thorns surround you, and you dwell among scorpions. Do not be afraid of their words or dismayed by their presence, though they are a rebellious house. | 6“Son of man, do not fear them or their words. Don’t be afraid even though their threats surround you like nettles and briers and stinging scorpions. Do not be dismayed by their dark scowls, even though they are rebels. |
| 7But speak My words to them, whether they listen or refuse to listen, for they are rebellious. | 7You must give them my messages whether they listen or not. But they won’t listen, for they are completely rebellious! |
| 8And you, son of man, listen to what I tell you. Do not be rebellious like that rebellious house. Open your mouth and eat what I give you.” | 8Son of man, listen to what I say to you. Do not join them in their rebellion. Open your mouth, and eat what I give you.” |

| 10which He unrolled before me. And written on the front and back of it were words of lamentation, mourning, and woe. | 10which he unrolled. And I saw that both sides were covered with funeral songs, words of sorrow, and pronouncements of doom. |
