Revelation 18:2 Parallel
CommentaryClarke's Commentary on the Bible
Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen - This is a quotation from Isaiah 21:9 : And he said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground. This is applied by some to Rome pagan; by others to Rome papal; and by others to Jerusalem.

Thorns will overrun her citadels, nettles and brambles her strongholds. She will become a haunt for jackals, a home for owls.
"So desert creatures and hyenas will live there, and there the owl will dwell. It will never again be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation.
Babylon will suddenly fall and be broken. Wail over her! Get balm for her pain; perhaps she can be healed.
Babylon will be a heap of ruins, a haunt of jackals, an object of horror and scorn, a place where no one lives.
