8.6.8.6 D James Montgomery The Three Marys. Mary, the Mother of Jesus. Mary, the Sister of Lazarus. Mary Magdalene. Like Mary, when the angel came To hail her from on high; When God's Messengers proclaim Glad tidings, would reply, -- "Behold the handmaid of the Lord, Be it according to Thy word." Come, Holy Ghost, Thy power impart, Form Christ in every heart. Like Mary, placed at Jesus' feet, We hear His words with joy; Nor would we change our humble seat For Martha's hard employ. Now, too, like Mary, when she shed The precious spikenard on his head, Sweet fall our tears from grateful eyes, While prayers'like incense rise. Like Mary at the Sepulchre, The risen Lord we seek: Jesus, reveal Thyself: -- like her, Oh! might we hear Thee speak! Thy look, Thy voice, Thy love the same, Call each poor handmaid by her name, While, with full heart and kindling eye, All, all, "Rabboni!" cry. |
