The Scribes and Pharisees Seek a Sign
Interwoven Gospels

Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered Him, saying, "Teacher, we desire to see a sign from Thee." But He, answering, said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation seeketh for a sign; and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of Jonah, the prophet: for as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. Men of Nineveh shall stand up in judgment with this generation and condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, One greater than Jonah is here. "The southern queen shall arise in the judgment with this generation and condemn it: for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, One greater than Solomon is here.

"But when the unclean spirit is gone out from the man, it goeth through waterless places seeking rest, and findeth it not. Then it saith, 'I will return into my house whence I came out." And coming, it findeth it vacant, swept, and set in order. Then it goeth and taketh with itself seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and entering in they dwell there: and the last state of that man becometh worse than the first. So shall it be also with this evil generation."
