He assures them of the certainty of Christ's coming to judgment;
   1 tautēn  ēdē,  agapētoi,  deuteran  umin  graphō  epistolēn,  en  ais  diegeirō  umōn  en  upomnēsei  tēn  eilikrinē  dianoian  2 mnēsthēnai  tōn  proeirēmenōn  rēmatōn  upo  tōn  agiōn  prophētōn  kai  tēs  tōn  apostolōn  umōn  entolēs  tou  kuriou  kai  sōtēros,  3 touto  prōton  ginōskontes  oti  eleusontai  ep  eschatōn  tōn  ēmerōn  en  empaigmonē  empaiktai  kata  tas  idias  epithumias  autōn  poreuomenoi  4 kai  legontes,  pou  estin  ē  epangelia  tēs  parousias  autou;  aph  ēs  gar  oi  pateres  ekoimēthēsan,  panta  outōs  diamenei  ap  archēs  ktiseōs.  5 lanthanei  gar  autous  touto  thelontas  oti  ouranoi  ēsan  ekpalai  kai  gē  ex  udatos  kai  di  udatos  sunestōsa  tō  tou  theou  logō,  6 di  ōn  o  tote  kosmos  udati  kataklustheis  apōleto·  7 oi  de  nun  ouranoi  kai  ē  gē  tō  autō  logō  tethēsaurismenoi  eisin  puri  tēroumenoi  eis  ēmeran  kriseōs  kai  apōleias  tōn  asebōn  anthrōpōn. 
warning the godly, for the long patience of God, to hasten their repentance.
He describes also the manner how the world shall be destroyed;
exhorting them to all holiness of life;
   14 dio,  agapētoi,  tauta  prosdokōntes  spoudasate  aspiloi  kai  amōmētoi  autō  eurethēnai  en  eirēnē.  15 kai  tēn  tou  kuriou  ēmōn  makrothumian  sōtērian  ēgeisthe  kathōs  kai  o  agapētos  ēmōn  adelphos  paulos  kata  tēn  dotheisan  autō  sophian  egrapsen  umin, 
and again to think the patience of God to tend to their salvation, as Paul wrote to them in his epistles.
