A Shepherd Laid to Rest

Pastor Titus Machingo Chondol

Titus Machingo Chondol was a Nigerian pastor remembered for steady, Scripture-shaped service in his community. He was known as an evangelist and teacher who labored to make the gospel plain and to help believers grow in discernment and obedience. Those who worked alongside him often spoke of his patience with young Christians, his careful handling of doctrine, and his willingness to do unnoticed work for the good of the church.

Burial and Witness (29 July 2006)

On July 29, 2006, believers gathered in Nigeria to bury Pastor Chondol. The day held both grief and gratitude: sorrow at the loss of a shepherd, and thanksgiving for a life “poured out” in service to Christ. The gathering testified to a common Christian conviction that death does not have the final word. As one of the passages often read at such times declares: “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me will live, even though he dies.’” (John 11:25). The burial became a public reminder that the church mourns with hope, entrusting its dead to the Lord who raises the dead.

Evangelism, Education, and Church Planting

Pastor Chondol planted several churches and worked to strengthen them beyond their beginnings. His ministry joined proclamation with instruction, urging believers not only to profess faith but to endure in it. He gave attention to the practical formation of disciples—teaching them to pray, to pursue holiness, and to guard the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, even when outside pressures made faithfulness costly.

Youth Fellowship and Pastors’ Forum

Among his notable efforts were a youth fellowship and a pastors’ forum. The youth work aimed to ground younger believers early, calling them to integrity and courage rather than compromise. The pastors’ forum fostered cooperation among church leaders, urging unity, holy living, and faithful teaching amid real strains on congregations. His leadership showed a quiet kind of heroism: not the applause of crowds, but the daily resolve to shepherd well.

Legacy and Resurrection Hope

Several young men, stirred by his example, entered the ministry. His legacy reflects the pattern of enduring service described in Scripture: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7). The churches he planted and the disciples he strengthened continue to echo the truth he preached: the Lord often advances His work through humble, persistent servants.
