A Mission Set in Order Latin America Mission (LAM) The Latin America Mission is a gospel-focused sending and support work organized to strengthen Christ’s church across Central and South America. On October 1, 1921, it was incorporated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, providing a durable framework for prayer, finances, oversight, and cooperation. The incorporation signaled that the work was not built on personality or impulse, but on accountable stewardship so laborers could be sent and sustained for the long term. Harry and Susan Strachan Evangelists Harry and Susan Strachan carried a burden for peoples and places where the Scriptures were little known and churches were few. Their calling required courage: leaving familiar surroundings, embracing distance and uncertainty, and laboring patiently across cultural and linguistic barriers. Their example reflects the quiet heroism of faithful servants who choose obedience over comfort, trusting that the Lord who calls also provides. Philadelphia Incorporation (1921) Incorporation was more than legal formality; it was a deliberate act of stewardship. It invited the wider body of believers into shared responsibility—intercession, giving, and wise governance—so ministry would be transparent and dependable. Such structure protects both workers and supporters, and it dignifies mission effort as a holy trust. “Now it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.” (1 Corinthians 4:2) Ministry Emphases and Growth From that small beginning, the Lord multiplied the labor. LAM’s pattern has emphasized sending workers, strengthening churches, and training believers so local congregations might endure, teach sound doctrine, and raise up future leaders. The goal has not been mere expansion, but maturity—faith rooted in Scripture and expressed in love, holiness, and perseverance. “And the things you have heard me say among many witnesses, entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.” (2 Timothy 2:2) Present Service and Continuing Aim Today, more than 125 staff serve with LAM in eight countries, pressing on with courage, compassion, and confidence in Christ. In places where His Word was scarcely heard, the mission’s enduring purpose remains clear: to make Christ known, to nourish believers, and to support churches that shine as faithful witnesses. “How then can they call on the One in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in One of whom they have not heard?” (Romans 10:14) |
