And it came to pass, after that year was ended, at the time that kings go out to battle, Joab led forth the power of the army, and ravaged the country of the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem. And Joab struck Rabbah, and destroyed it.
And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent (about 65 pounds) of gold, plus the precious stones in it; and they set it upon David's head. And he also brought exceeding much spoil out of Rabbah.
And he brought out the people who were in it, and put them to work with saws, with picks of iron, and with axes. David dealt with all the cities of the children of Ammon in this way. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines, at which time Sibbecai, the Hushathite, slew Sippai, one of the children of the giants; and they were subdued.
And there was war again with the Philistines; and Elhanan, the son of Jair, slew Lahmi, the brother of Goliath, the Gittite, whose spear's staff was like a weaver's beam.
And yet again there was war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, who had twenty-four fingers and toes - six on each hand, and six on each foot; being a son of the giants.
But when he defied Israel, Jonathan, the son of Shimei, David's brother, slew him.
These were descendants of the giants in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by his servants. Easy Reader Bible: Purple Letter Edition © 2023 by Jim Musser. Used by Permission. All rights Reserved. Bible Hub |
