2 Maccabees 7:16
Good News Translation
he looked the king squarely in the eye and said, "You have the power to do whatever you want with us, even though you also are mortal. But do not think that God has abandoned our people.

But he looked at the king, and said, “Because you have authority among mortals, though you also are mortal, you do what you please. But do not think that God has forsaken our people.

he looked straight at the king and said, "You order people around and make them obey you. But someday you will die. Don't think God has turned his back on our nation.

Looking at the king, he said: “Mortal though you are, you have power over human beings, so you do what you please. But do not think that our nation is forsaken by God.
