Judas was the first to take up his weapons, and he urged the others to join him in risking their lives to help the other Jews. So with great eagerness they all set out together.

Maccabeus himself was the first to take up arms, and he urged the others to risk their lives with him to aid their kindred. Then they eagerly rushed off together.

When they had finished praying, Judas was the first to reach for his weapons. Then he urged his troops to do the same. "Let's save our people, no matter what the cost!" he said. They eagerly set out for the enemy camp.
