Good News Translation
When Judas saw that his army was dwindling away and that the battle was about to begin, he was worried because there was not enough time to bring his army together.

When Judas saw that his army had slipped away and the battle was imminent, he was crushed in spirit, for he had no time to assemble them.

Contemporary English Version
When the fighting was about to start, Judas suddenly realized that most of his troops had deserted, and he was terribly discouraged because there was no time to bring them back.
