Clarke's Commentary on the BibleThe strangers that were in the land - Those who had become proselytes to the Jewish religion, at least so far as to renounce idolatry, and keep what were called the seven Noahic precepts. 1 Kings 5:17 At the king's command they removed from the quarry large blocks of high-grade stone to provide a foundation of dressed stone for the temple.
1 Kings 5:18 The craftsmen of Solomon and Hiram and workers from Byblos cut and prepared the timber and stone for the building of the temple.
1 Kings 9:20 There were still people left from the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites (these peoples were not Israelites).
