Psalm 137

The captive's cry for vengeance.

1By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept, when we remembered Zion. 2We hung our harps on the branches of willows in the middle of Babylon. 3For there, our captors tormented us, demanding from us mirth; and requiring a song from us, saying, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion”. 4How shall we sing the LORD's song in a foreign land? 5If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget how to play the harp; 6And let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth, if I do not regard Jerusalem above my highest joy.

7Remember, O LORD, what the Edomites did in the day Jerusalem fell; when they cried, “Tear it down, tear it down to its foundation.”, 8O Babylon, who is destined to be destroyed; happy shall be the that repays you for what you have done to us. 9Happy shall he be, that seizes and dashes your little ones against the rocks.

A Psalm of David.
