When a Philistine arrow mortally wounded Saul in battle, he asked his armor-bearer to kill him, but the armor-bearer would not kill his king. So Saul committed suicide. The armor-bearer also committed suicide (1 Samuel 31; 2 Samuel 4:4; 1 Chronicles 10).
