On Paul's Third Missionary Journey, a silversmith riot started at Ephesus because the spread of the Gospel was hurting the sale of silver idols of Diana of the Ephesians, or Artemis. Here the town clerk, or mayor, tries to quiet the rioters (Acts 19:21-41).
