Kings died, and apostles watched Jesus ascend. Mountains are more than background scenery in Scripture. One shook beneath the presence of God. Another became the stage for a showdown over who was truly God. From a third, Moses caught his final glimpse of the Promised Land. Again and again, pivotal moments happened on the heights. Where did Noah's ark come to rest after the floodwaters began to recede? Answer: The mountains of Ararat Reference: Genesis 8:4 Insight: Genesis does not actually say "Mount Ararat." It says the "mountains of Ararat," referring to a region rather than identifying one specific peak. If you said Mount Ararat, count yourself correct. 2. To what region did God send Abraham when He commanded him to offer Isaac on one of its mountains? Answer: The land of Moriah Reference: Genesis 22:2 Insight: God did not initially name the specific mountain. He told Abraham to go to Moriah and offer Isaac on "one of the mountains" He would show him. 3. Answer: Mount Nebo Reference: Deuteronomy 34:1–5 Insight: Deuteronomy says Moses went up Mount Nebo to the top of Pisgah. Answer: Mount Gerizim Reference: Judges 9:7–15 Insight: Jotham's parable moves from the olive tree to the fig tree, then the vine, and finally the bramble, using their responses to condemn Abimelech's rise to power. 7. Answer: Mount Tabor Reference: Judges 4:6, 12–14 Insight: Deborah instructed Barak to gather his forces at Tabor.
